A large portion of my work is done on bolt action hunting rifles. This work consists mainly in improving the accuracy of the rifle. I do the following steps in order to optimize the rifle's accuracy:
• | Refit the barrel action to the stock, so there is no undue torque exerted when the stock bolts are tightened. |
• | Epoxy (glass bed) the action for a perfect fit, and free float the barrel. |
• | Set the trigger pull to 2.5 pounds, resulting in a crisp, creep-free trigger. |
• | Mount the scope in the best position for the shooter. Locktite is used on all screws, so the scope will stay in position. |
• | Obtain a comfortable length of the pull (stock length). |
• | Installation of a good recoil pad (goes hand in hand with the length of pull). |
• | Muzzle brakes are installed in order to remedy the flinching or jerking of the trigger associated with heavy recoiling rifles. The brakes reduce this recoil by 50 to 60 percent. |
